Melbourne

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in the country. Melbourne is the southernmost city in the world with a population exceeding one million. Melbourne was chosen first in the list of the World's Most Livable Cities published by The Economist magazine in 2011, in terms of cultural quality, climate, living wage and social conditions such as health and crime rate. Melbourne is home to three of Australia's largest companies: Telstra, BHP Billiton and National Australia Bank. The majority of companies listed on the Australian Trades Council, the Australian Trades Council and the Australian Stock Exchange are based in Melbourne. Melbourne, called the sports city of Australia, hosts the country's major sports competitions. These include the Melbourne Spring Horse Racing Festival (this includes the Melbourne Cup), the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, the Australian Open Tennis Tournament and the AFL Grand Final.
